Litha: the Summer Solstice Sabbat

RITUAL

6/17/2024

Litha is the sabbat of the Summer Solstice. It’s probably the most commonly celebrated one, since the longest day of the year aligns with music festivals and San Juan, among others.

It’s an opportunity to acknowledge, accept, and honour the abundance in our lives. We celebrate the Sun, which works hand in hand with Pachamama to keep us warm and allow us to reap the fruits of the seeds planted at Ostara—both physical and energetic ones.
As a little bonus this year, Litha is followed by a Full Moon, which I won’t dwell on but will further intensify the energy of fullness.

Abundance doesn’t always take the form we expect. We can invoke a specific thing as strongly as we want, but if the heart isn’t clear on the reasons why we’re asking for it, it won’t come as we imagined.

For example, for Ostara, I tried manifesting more financial success so that, soon, I could buy a house facing the ocean.
This house is a stable and stimulating place where I’ll be safe and free to create and expand spiritually.

My financial income hasn’t increased since Spring, but I currently find myself in a beautiful house facing the ocean, where I spend my days drawing, writing, doing yoga, and meditating.
I very randomly met people who led me to enrol in a Vipassana retreat, which, I have no doubt, will be a spiritually meaningful experience.
After that, I will fly to Polynesia in the middle of whale season.

I am free, I create, I expand, and I am safe. Abundance. Boom.

The key, I recently realised, is to have faith in Life. That’s all.
Of course, you must continue to take the right actions towards achieving your goals; but with gentleness, without forcing. Everything must be fluid. Simplicity is a sign that you are on the right path, that magical forces are accompanying and supporting you.

So today, we are going to take the time to assess all the Abundance we are immersed in, and we will honour it, to manifest even more and shine even brighter!

Celebrating the longest day of the year with concerts or around a bonfire on the beach is already a powerful symbolic gesture.
But if you want to go a bit further, I suggest this little ritual, which you can adapt according to your motivation and what you have at hand:

  • Crystals: citrine, aventurine, amazonite, rose quartz, pyrite, carnelian, clear quartz

  • Paper and pencil

  • Seasonal fruits

  • Pareu / towel/sheet to sit on

Just before sunrise, settle on the ground (if you don’t want to get up so early, leave your crystals by a window—or even outside—before going to bed so they get charged with the first rays of the morning). Set up a small altar in front of you with your crystals and fruits.

Inhale deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth three times.

Now, make a list of everything you are grateful for. Everything that is already part of your life and evokes abundance.
It can be as obvious as having a roof over your head and a healthy body, or something more elaborate, like a project close to your heart or honest and enriching relationships. There is no wrong answer.
Write down everything your heart whispers—everything that brings you joy, everything you haven’t always had but is now part of your daily life.
If you feel like drawing or decorating your list in any way to better convey what you feel, go for it.

Then, choose at least three items from your list and underline them or draw a little symbol next to them.

Place your left hand on your heart and your right hand on your abdomen. Read the first item, and close your eyes.
Let yourself be overwhelmed by the sensations and images you associate with this element for which you are grateful. Immerse yourself in what it represents to you and everything it brings you.

Then, maintaining this state as much as possible, exhale deeply and inhale until your lungs are full. Hold at the top and contract your perineum. Continue to think about what you are grateful for. Hold the retention with pelvic floor contraction as long as you can, thus bathing in the energy of abundance and gratitude. Then exhale slowly.

Repeat the process with the two (or more) other items you have chosen. Of course, if you have the time and desire to do it with your entire list, go for it.

Once finished, close your eyes and take a moment to see how you feel. If the Sun is shining, let it bless you and your list with its magical rays, and thank it. May it continue to provide you with everything you desire.

Then celebrate abundance, life, joy, light, and warmth by eating the fruits from your altar.

Stay there as long as you want in order to recharge yourself, your list, and your crystals as much as possible.

Then fold the list towards you three times, turning it clockwise each time. Keep it in a precious place with the sun-charged crystals.

Whenever you feel the need, when you doubt or feel a bit down, read your abundance list and take one of the stones with you to comfort you.

Thank you, and happy Summer
